Supporting Your Library
How to get involved!
Volunteering
The Library has an active volunteer program, and is very grateful for any help you can give! If you wish to volunteer, please call the Library.
How you can help:
- Volunteer to help staff the Library on Saturday afternoons.
- Donate new or used books, audiotapes and videos to be placed in the library's collection or sold at one of the Friends' book sales.
- Assist with children and adult programs.
- Work at the Bi-Annual Book Sales (our biggest fund raiser)
- Join a library work party, or assist the librarians on your own.
- Become a member of Friends of the Scio Public Library. See information below.
Friends of the Library
In public libraries all over the nation, Friends of the Library groups work closely with library staff members to enhance and expand library services. These volunteers value libraries and their many benefits to their communities. For this reason, Friends seek ways to promote library use.
Our local Friends group has been around for many years. In fact, the Friends led the effort to establish the Scio Public Library at its current site, adjacent to Scio City Hall.
Examples of some of the things Friends do:
- Raise funds to provide books and supplement special projects and programs for the Library. Our main fund raising project is a bi-annual used book sale.
- Provide volunteers to keep the Library open on Saturday afternoons.
- Support and sponsor programs for children and adults.
- Promote the use and support of the library.
- Help maintain and improve library facilities.
- Encourage gifts to the library -- books, magazine subscriptions, endowments, and bequests.
The Friends meet the first Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the library.
